Now that summer is here, you may be daydreaming of a tropical vacation. But in this economy, many of us have to settle for “staycations.” Fear not—you can easily turn your dreams into reality, transforming your very own bedroom to a relaxing paradise with affordable decorative ceiling tiles.
Start by removing those heavy, dark comforters and draperies. Chances are you won’t need the goosedown for warmth until a nip of autumn chill is in the air come September or October, so pack them away in a closet or under the bed. Of course, you’ll want to make sure you take steps to prevent insect infestations.
Now replace the comforter with a lightweight cool white, pastel polka dot, or carnival-striped cotton or linen throw.
If you can afford it, Roman shades or vertical blinds in a pure white or light wood are a great replacement for your winter window treatments. Otherwise, you can go with cool, gauzy sheer or lace curtains to protect your privacy and keep out the heat.
Less is More
Next, declutter. Yes, that can be more easily said than done, but how many hotel rooms do you know that have piles of papers on the desk, chair, or even floor? And how can you really relax when you have those unpaid bills to stare at all night? Put them away in the desk and go for a clean look. Remember, “less is more.”
Things Are Looking Up
Now you’re ready to refurbish your ceiling.
We have a great selection of summery tropical and Mediterranean-themed tiles, including our 151 Aegean Seashell, 2481 Island Oasis, 2438 Tuscan Glory, and 12004 Tropical Fantasy (shown below).
For a cool, clean look, you might want to go with simple and classic, such as the 1209 Classic Piazza San Marco, 2401 Classic Edgerton Square, 2418 Classic Old Farmhouse, or 2429 Union Square.
If you like the pristine look of the white styrofoam tiles, check out the R 20 Viennese or the R 74 Coronado.
Color Me Relaxed
Of course, you can order your tiles in a variety of summery colors and finishes, or you can paint them yourself, either before or after installation. Among the hot (and cool) colors for this summer are beautiful orange-y melon, bubblegum hot pink, and cool mint green. Of course, you can go with the traditional summery lemon yellow or a soothing tropical blue to remind you of the beautiful clear water of your own private tropical island.
Depending on your budget, you can add a piece or two of teak, rattan, or bamboo furniture, preferably in a white or light shade. For a look that’s romantic, tropical, and practical, suspend a gauzy mosquito net over your bed. Finally, the pièce de résistance—a beautiful ceiling fan to cool you off on those hot summer nights.
If you don’t have a bundle to spend this summer, you can still have a wonderful, relaxing vacation right in your own home. Transform your bedroom into a relaxing tropical paradise of your very own with a little work, just a little cash, and some inexpensive decorative ceiling tiles. Don’t forget to send us a postcard!
